Memphis Jewish Federation Shares Commemorative Resources for Second Anniversary of October 7

Marking two years since the horrific October 7 massacre, the Memphis Jewish Federation has prepared commemorative materials and launched a communal act of remembrance designed to be meaningful and accessible to all members of the community.

In lieu of a community gathering, Federation has created a “Remember at Home” Digital Guide filled with diverse resources for community members to explore at their own pace, in a setting and time that feels most meaningful. The guide includes opportunities to learn about slain civilians and fallen soldiers, hostages and heroes, listen to soulful, reflective music, stream powerful video content, and take meaningful action in remembrance and solidarity.

Aligning with the State of Israel’s designated memorial day of October 16th, Federation is asking community members to light a memorial candle on that day, take a photo with your family holding the candle, and send it to photos@jcpmemphis.org. The pictures will become part of a community photo mosaic art installation, serving as our collective memorial to that day of tragedy and the heroism and resilience it spawned.

In addition to incorporating photos submitted by community members, the Federation will visit all local agencies and congregations on October 16, accompanied by a professional photographer, to capture images of constituents, students, and staff lighting memorial candles.

Community members may pick up a memorial candle at the Federation office or purchase one online or at a local grocery store with a kosher section.
