As the one-year anniversary of the devastating events of October 7 approaches, Memphis Jewish Federation (Federation) invites the community to An Evening of Remembrance, Unity, and Hope. This special commemoration will be dedicated to mourning our tragic losses, expressing our unity, and embracing our resilient spirit.
The commemoration is scheduled for Monday, October 7, at the Memphis Jewish Community Center. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with the program beginning at 6:30 pm. All guests are required to register by Sunday, September 29-registration is available at tinyurl.com/fedoct7event. Please note – some of this event’s content may be difficult for young children.
“This commemoration will acknowledge the sorrow and trauma that we, the Jewish people, continue to endure. The raw pain of October 7, the ongoing war and the hostages murdered and those still in captivity are heavy burdens we are still carrying. And yet, the Jewish community is resilient and hopeful. During this immersive experience, we will pay tribute to our heartbreak, draw strength from our unity, and hold out hope for our future,” said Bluma Zuckerbrot-Finkelstein, Federation Executive Vice-President.
This unique multimedia commemoration will include community members and leadership from across the diverse Memphis Jewish community. Israeli resources will also be part of the evening’s program.
“It is our honor and privilege to provide the Memphis Jewish and broader community with an evening where we can reflect on the past year and move into the days ahead,” said Laura Linder, President and CEO of Jewish Community Partners.
“We also want to acknowledge the incredible work of the planning committee for this event. Thank you to our chair, Jill Shanker, and to members Margo Fogelman, Michelle Katz, Benjamin Lazarov, Betsy Saslawsky, Hila Shimony, Jerry Siegler, and Mary Trotz for their thoughtful and sensitive guidance and support.”
